A misfit group of Edmonton-based lawyers leave the courtroom for the stage at the 2016 Edmonton Fringe Festival. After a successful run at the 2015 Festival, the Novus Actors return with a new double-bill. It’s Legally Lemoine: Two Comedies in Search of Justice. On the docket this year are two Stewart Lemoine one-acts: A Widow’s Crimes weaves intrigue, deception, and romance at a Balkan spa in the 1920s, and in the more contemporary A Second Round of Seconds, rogue participants cause havoc at a speed dating event.
The Novus Actors is an ensemble group of Edmonton-based barristers and solicitors, made up of Mark Facundo, Jillian Gamez, Stacey Grubb (Anything Goes), Don MacCannell, Morgan McClelland, Ed Picard, Sarah Rossman and Marissa Tordoff. Jointly directing the production are Stewart Lemoine and Mathew Hulshof.
“Edmonton has an incredibly vibrant theatre community,” said Stacey Grubb, actor and legal counsel with Alberta Justice. “I fell in love with Stewart Lemoine’s work the first time I saw it. It is such a privilege to work with members of Teatro La Quindicina’s ensemble.”
All proceeds from the show will be donated to Teatro La Quindicina, a not-for-profit professional theatre company based in Edmonton. LOCATION: Venue #12 – Varscona Theatre, 10329 83 Avenue, Edmonton
