Edmonton’s foremost community theatre is looking for readers for its annual new works festival, From Cradle to Stage. Walterdale Theatre Associates will present nine new scripts from nine local playwrights for the festival, which runs May 20 – 25, 2025.

The playwrights have been working hard with dramaturgs to tighten up their scripts and now is the time for them to see their words performed in front of the generous Edmonton theatregoers…and we need YOUR help with that.

The Festival:

  • From Cradle to Stage is a new works staged reading festival that allows playwrights to hear their works read in front of an audience. Directors help curate that process and performers help bring the words to life for the playwright.
  • Directors will cast based on audition videos. Most rehearsals will occur over Zoom until early May when they move to in-person.
  • There will be 1 tech rehearsal right before the festival, this will be in person, as well as 2 nights between May 20-25.

What we are looking for:

  • We are looking for readers of every ethnicity, age, and of any gender identification to read and perform in our scripts.
  • One script requires 3 Female Identifying First Nations readers. The submission form will ask if you will be considered for this script. Please only fill in if you fit into these casting requirements.
  • Each night will have 3 scripts, with one Director curating the night, but each script will have its own cast, which leaves a lot of opportunities to perform on Walterdale’s stage.

How to audition:

  • Please submit a 1-2 minute video of you reading something. Anything. We just want to see how well you read and sound. It can be a monologue, an excerpt from a novel, or the instructions on the taco seasoning, just please be sure the lighting and sound are good. Introduce yourself with your name at the beginning and the title of the piece you’re reading.
  • Fill out the Google form and ensure to list any potential scheduling conflicts.
  • The deadline to submit your audition has been extended to Thursday, April 3, 2025 at 11:59 pm.

Please email all audition videos to Festival Coordinator Shawn Marshall @ shawnmarshallaaa@gmail.com.
