Walterdale strives at all times to accommodate the requirements of audience, volunteers and the public.
To support financial accessibility, Walterdale offers free tickets to volunteers for each show, discounted ticket nights and free memberships for those who volunteer 10 hours or more in each year.
Our main entrance is wheelchair accessible, and in our intimate theatre space we can accommodate wheelchairs along the skirt of the stage. Main floor washrooms are wheelchair accessible, with separate stalls.
Walterdale was one of the first public performing venues in North America to have a permanent installation of the T-Coil hearing loop. Our patrons with hearing loss may borrow one of our head sets, or use their Loop-compatible hearing aid.
All opening night receptions are hosted in the main floor lobby.
However, working in a historic building has its limitations. The second floor of Walterdale, which houses the primary rehearsal hall and costume room, is only accessible by stairs. Architectural studies have recommended against the installation of an elevator due to structural and space considerations.
Walterdale will continue to work with all volunteers and members, and do our best to ensure that opportunities to participate are available to everyone.
If you have questions about accessibility at Walterdale, please contact our office at admin@walterdaletheatre.com or by phone at 780-439-3058.
Starting in 2023 Walterdale Theatre is pleased to offer Live Caption Streaming on the first Friday of each run!
Live Caption Streaming allows deaf or hard of hearing audience members the opportunity to more fully enjoy and engage with a live performance. Captioning is provided by a professional captioner who works actively with the hearing loss community. The captioner works live during the performance, reflecting what happens in real-time.
How does it work?
Live Caption Streaming is projected to your personal device. Simply bring your smartphone or tablet to the performance. Walterdale Theatre will provide a dedicated public Wi-Fi network for audience members wishing to access the streaming link.
Captioning will appear on devices as light text on a dark screen, to allow for maximum clarity and minimum light spill.
Any audience member can access the live captioning via their cell phone or tablet.
