Monica Roberts

Monica Roberts, Artistic Director, Walterdale Theatre Associates

Monica is an Edmonton born and raised creator who looks for opportunities to apply her skills and experience in arts and heritage to uncommon environments and experiences.

Her passion for connecting people to meaningful arts experiences began with her first degrees in Drama Education from the University of Alberta and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre from University of Windsor. Since then, Monica has also been a student, performer, board member and active volunteer in Edmonton’s arts and culture community.

Upon returning to Edmonton, Monica developed her skills and experience as a leader, administrator and manager with local heritage organizations by overseeing the public programs for the City of Edmonton’s attractions (Valley Zoo, John Janzen Nature Center, John Walter Museum, Muttart Conservatory, and Fort Edmonton Park). Then, as a Directing Manager of Site Stewardship and Animation at Fort Edmonton, Monica led the team delivering year-round, high profile event experiences and learning programs as well as building maintenance, capitol project development and community partnerships.

Monica has been performing on stage for over 30 years. Her roles at Walterdale include Diana in Next to Normal, Phyllis in Follies, Cleopatra in Antony and Cleopatra, Lenny in Crimes of the Heart and Eva in Mail Order Bride. She is the Co-Creator of Round Barn Productions with which she has written, performed, and produced new and established theatrical works, most recently The Marriage Pact at the 2019 Edmonton International Fringe Festival. Monica is currently directing an adaptation of Orwell’s 1984 for Walterdale, opening in February 2020.
