What does that entail? I’m the one who facilitates the transition of the play from page to stage…ugh, that sounds too pretentious. Let’s try again…I tell the actors where to go and what to do. And then I tell them again. And again…just kidding!
What is your background in theatre? With Walterdale? I’ve been involved in theatre for over 20 years now. Yikes! I have my Drama Diploma from Keyano College & my BFA from the University of Lethbridge. I’ve done 4 Walterdale shows as a performer, the most recent being Anything Goes in 2013.
What brought you out for this show? I’ve been wanting to go back to directing for awhile, I hadn’t done any since University. I knew I needed to start small before I think about full scale musicals (which is what I think about most of the time) and I knew Walterdale would be the right place for me! The shows hadn’t been selected when I submitted my application to direct for FC2S so it was exciting to find out what the show was. And then a little worrying because I know nothing about religion! This has been such a great experience though and I’m so glad to be bringing Mark’s work to life. We’ve worked really well together and we have a lot of respect for each other and the work. It’s all about collaboration, kiddies!
This play seems to have to do with building things… what’s the craziest/coolest/hardest thing you have ever built? The hardest thing I’ve built is this show, from the ground up! But because I have such an awesome building team, it’s made everything easier 🙂
What do you think audiences will take away from this play? Hopefully they will embrace that we are telling a ‘what if’ story about part of the Bible that isn’t really explored. It’s a reminder that there is humour to be found in all things.
